Pulled the alt - well there's your problem...

Looks like I'm looking for an engine/new car and maybe parting this out...

Wow, that took in a lot of water. I've seen that a few times in the off road community. Engines don't like to compress water....

Your car looks in very good condition though, I'd just replace the motor. You could probably find one of those block in a slavage yard I'm sure.

Just to let you know, vvblazers777has one in the for sale forum. Low miles too, but you'll need to talk some sense into him... he want's a redicilous $1300 for it. You could probably pick up a short block new for that much, IDK.

Geezus Kryst - $1300 for a 12v? As far as I've seen, you ought to be able to pick one up for around $500.

I'm not sure I'd total the car just over that.... well, it is a 1996 -- perhaps

Either way, that totally sucks.

wow. that sucks the big one wood_e, sorry dude. I'm surprised you didn't hear a hell of a bang when it went, that's a lot of force and pressure going on to throw a rod through the side of the block. best of luck to you, whatever you decide to do. just make sure you keep driving an audi, whether it's this one or another !

Holy crap! This might sound like a stupid question but, did the water getting sucked into your engine from the cai cause you to throw a rod like that? sorry to hear about your loss man!
