Default Finally!!! IT"S FIXED

I found a performance shop here in Indy that fixed the problem. Now I feel like an idiot. I had two cracked spark plugs. 2 and 3. I just put in Iridium plugs about 3 months ago. They replaced them with NGK's. There was aslo, and I quote, "an excessive amount of dieltric grease in the plug chambers". That was done by the old shop that's now defunked. Well, at any rate, she runs perfectly now. The mechanic that worked on it took it out for a test drive and commented that for 115,000 he couldn't believe how well it ran. They also replaced my shifter shaft seal. It was leaking slightly, but enough to put a few drips on the driveway. What a relief.

Sweet Doose! Good to hear you got your pride and joy back and you found an Audi mech that you like! I still haven't found one around here even worth pissing on..but I haven't really had any serious problems yet so hopefully I won't have to for awhile.

Thanks man, I'll tell you, I have pumped over a grand into it in this last week. Granted the cam seals and the wheel bearing are due to the mileage I have on the car, but the spark plug thing has still got me stumped. I can't figure out why they would have cracked with so little use. Quite a few K04 upgrade kits come with Iridium plugs, so I've got to figure out why they cracked on me. What kind of plugs are you running?

That's exactly what I thought when the service manager called me. I thought checking plugs before coil replacement was like Mechanics 101. What do you think cuased them to crack? They were Denso plugs. Replaced them with NGK's.

most likely it was heat they might have been the wrong heat range plugs or it could have been detonation... do you have the giac software for your K04?

*Drunken Post*

Yes Slim, I wanna **** ALL OVER AN AUDI MECHANIC!!!! WEEEEE....PEEE! HHEHEHEHEHEHEE.

As for spark plugs, I have no idea what they are...how do you check? The car came with a freakin Fleet Farm Battery for god's sake! I bet the spark plugs are Rayovac double A's.

Got a battery & spark plug replacement recommendation?

Dude!..... [sm=icon_cheers.gif] Friends dont let friends drink and post!

you have to take the plastic cover off the top of the engine then you have to unplug and remove the coil packs then you get a sparkplug socket and a extention for your ratchet and remove the spark plug

Transverse, sounds like you had a better night than I did! Chriz, the shop did keep the old plugs, so I'll have to check and see what the heat range was on them. I have TAP stage 3 software. I found another ECU on eBay the other night, if I win it I'm thinking of getting it chipped by GIAC or possibly Dallbach.

Doose, have you found any objective data on the Dahlbeck chip?

BTW: Congrats on sorting out your engine - sounds like all is well.
