Sounds promising. I was sidetracked today with some friends that came into town, so I didn't get to dig into the headlight switch assembly. I did change out the hazard switch/relay and my turn signals are back now. Tomorrow morning I'll be doing the R&R on the headlight switch. I have an interim fix that I'll use if the spring inside the switch isn't the problem, and I may well just leave it that way, we'll see. But yeah, on Monday I'll call Eric and see what he says for the combi switch. I appreciate the info

 

No problem. I also bought lower door moldings from him and a belly pan. Those were new oem parts. If I ever get my car back together we should meet somewhere. Are you an EE at UIC?

 

Anytime man, and if you want a hand turning wrenches, let me know - I'll buzz up and help you out. I work at BAE Systems in Westover (across from Aldi's on Main St in JC). If the refurb doesn't work tomorrow for whatever reason, I'll be in touch with Eric. I may give him a call anyhow - I can think of a few other parts I'd like to replace on my car.

No need to go to the dealer to fix this. I would like to understand what caused the failure in the first place which is why I'm going through this. There's nothing wrong with investigating it, and unfortunately in this town our one and only Audi "dealer" is an idiot shop, doesn't stock all that many B5 parts, and overcharges for things. Add in 10-plus years of working on my own cars, and there's no way I'm waiting around at that shop for the opportunity to pay extra for subpar work. And the next nearest dealer is over an hour away. If I was in a larger city, I'd probably have more of an opportunity to hit up a few different dealers or parts suppliers, but around here, one shop is it.

 

and the smaller shops around here seem to be american and honda specialized instead of anything else. trust me jeremy knows what he's doing lol. he just likes to investigate and hopefully get himself a few zaps of electricity cuz he's like that feeling hehe

They only have VW and Audi donor cars, know all the parts, and how to get them out without turning stuff to junk in the process.
