I have a 2000 A4 1.8 Quattro. I been getting the engine coolant level & engine temperature symbol. The big "F" flowting symbol."The Red Symbols" The car doesn't get over heated or anything the temperature gauge stay in the middle. But offand on the symbol will appear and disappear while driving. So please help me on how to fix this problem.

 

Have you checked the coolant level? Also, try scanning for codes.
