driver information display question (defect?) (now with pictures)
Two days ago I got a new 2007 A4, it's been awesome.
However, last night I noticed what I thought is a line on the display is out. If you don't know, the display is usually broken up into 3 portions with 2 illuminated horizontal red lines acting as the borders between sections. The line I think is out looks like it's 2 lines above the top border line.
Later, I theorized that the black line is actually the bottom of the shorter second LCD screen (which is yellow) which displays "OK" or any service notices which is physically superimposed ontop of the standard red LCD display. I stopped by the dealership I got the car from today about this and we jumped in another A4 with a similar display style and it had the same line out.
I read on the board about lines or entire displays going out after a period of time and thought this might be an egregious defect in the same vein.
I tried to run searches on this particular phenomenon but I didn't find anything.
My question to repliers is that is this by design and every display is like this or have I found 2 A4's with the same line out?

RE: B7; driver information display question
I have a 07 B7,
I am not sure what your problem is. But every line on my screen is working for me.
Do you have a navigation? if you do, turn on the compass and see if that will fix it.

RE: B7; driver information display question
don't have a digital camera, sorry.
I was just out there since it's dark and therefore is more evident. It looks like the line moves depending on your vertical angle which seems to reinforce my theory. When looking at it horizontally, the line looks like it disappears which is weird but could be part of the construction of the second yellow "service" LCD.

RE: B7; driver information display question
bump.
I'd like to thank kchao2000 for his/her response but I'd like more than one response from B7 A4 owners for me to help establish a consensus on this.
I'm sure there are a few B7 owners on the board that can weigh in on this.
Your best chance to see this is to start the A4 when it's dark (for maximum contrast) then press the reset button on the wiper stalk to enter the menu mode in the driver information display. That removes the illuminated lines which makes it difficult to identify the dark line. When the menu comes up, the black line should be easily seen. Check it out and let me know.
