drained battery
quick question:
so i left the interior light on in my car over night on fri draining the battery completely by sat morning. I have to boost it to get it going the next morning. Since the boost i've been having rough starts.... i crank the key, it slowly putters but it starts. I hooked up the battery voltage meter and it read 10v, when i started the car it read 13.6v... so i'm thinking the alternator is doin its job, its just the battery not holding on to the charge...
my buddy has a battery charger and i'm gonna hook it up tomoorrow... but is that gonna fix the problem or do i need a new battery???? any one know???
thanks guys
cheers
2000 A4 1.8t
.... if i do need a battery, what would be the best replacement????

RE: drained battery
Did you take the car out for a long drive after you jumped it. If you had a good battery and just drained it, it needs some good driving time for the alternator to fully recharge it. You may still be low on power because you haven't driven around enough.
If you battery was pretty old, it may not recover as well from being drained and it may be time for a new battery.
Charge it up, go for a long cruise, see if it still happens. If so replace the battery. When you go, there will be lots of options. First you have to find the type that fits your car and then they are pretty just broken up by price range. Its all about how much you want to spend, but I would probably get a pretty good one (read more expensive one). More AMPS the better (often listed as cold cranking amps).
Good luck.

RE: drained battery
Agree.
BTW, when was the last time you checked the battery cells for electrolyte level. The batteries are low maintenance, not no maintenance. After taking the car for a drive chekc the battery level at top up with distilled water so that the electrolyte level is above the plates.

RE: drained battery
after i jumped it, i took it for a 20 minute highway drive... but the same thing happens after i go to start it. The battery itself is the original battery, the car is a 2000. Its weird b/c everytime i go to start it, the same thing happens. I can wake up in the morning, go to start it, and its a rough start. Drive around a little bit, turn the ignition off and try turning it on again, the same thing happens when i go to start it...
i got a battery charger hooked up to it now, gonna leave it on for a couple of hours and try it again. I've never checked the levels on it before, guessing i should now...
here's a question: i dont even know the difference between distilled water and boiled water??? what exactly is distilled water???
should i disconnect the charger and check the levels, or should i just leave it as is for a couple of hours...????
thanks again guys,
cheers

RE: drained battery
The battery is six years old, I would def replace (especially if putting in a system). That should hopefully fix your problem.
Distilled water is purified water and is the only type of water you should put into a battery. Regualr water is no good.
