DIY: Louder turbo

DIY: Louder turbo
My friends and I were standing around outside my car today, shootin' the ****, when they started asking about my car. One of them wanted to see my engine, so I popped the hood. They all looked around and I showed them the turbo, intercooler, etc. (My car is stock, so its hard to see where things are) when one of my friends said it would look cooler if I took off the engine cover. So I pulled it off. But then it didn't really match, so we took off the plastic airbox cover. Then the battery cover, and finally the whole plastic peice that surrounds the battery area (I am going to put this back on if it starts raining).
When I was driving home, I noticed the turbo was twice as loud. It sounded like the AC running at 50%. Obviously no gains, but it sounds awesome.

no, I just took off the little plastic cosmetic peice. The filter is still 100% enclosed. The plastic just dampens the noise a bit, so when I took it off, it was louder.

you drove without an airbox cover? exposing your filter?

Oh I see... I wonder how what you say can be true then?? That doesnt make any sense if you are talking about just taking the plastic cosmetic piece off above the air box makes it louder... HMMMM.

How's this: I'll take a picture and prove nothing is exposed.

Okay, I have to pull and AteUrV8 on you for the moment though. I can't find my digicam and I am going out in a bit and won't be home till around 6-7am tomorrow (gotta party after graduation). Maybe I'll do a single blind experiement too, and see if anyone can tell it is not just a placebo. I know for sure the car is not any faster, it just sounds much louder, especially while the turbo is spooling.
