Default DIY - how to replace a turbo

Anyone have experience replacing/upgrading your turbo yourself, or links to good resources to learn how to do so?

I did mine a couple times. What are you looking to do?

My turbo is gone and and I need to replace it and I'd rather do it myself than pay someone else if possible. I figure I may as well put a better than stock one in while I'm at it. I don't know much about it though as I'm just getting into this. I'm considering a K04 kit, but I don't really know. Mostly I'm just trying to figure out if it's even something I can do myself. Is it very difficult to do?

How mechanically inclined are you? You'll also need access to a good variety of tools.

I'm not super inclined but I enjoy it. I restored an old T-Bird in highschool so I know some basics. I have a decent amount of tools, and access to my fathers collection - but mostly your basic stuff. Would I need anything specialized? I can buy stuff but idealy I'd prefer to come out cheaper than If I had the shop work on it.
