Default DIY chip

would this be a hard job to do for a begginer?
any good writeups w/pics?

Installing the ECU into the car is doable (quite easy). Installing a chip into the ECU is best left for a professional.
You basically need to remove the ecu, send it off to have the old chip removed and the new chip soldered in.

No real way to shortcut that one.

well in that case
would it be hard to install the ecu after u get it chipped from apr or giac
i guess u would need a vag.com?

It's a piece on cake to reinstall. You don't need vagcom. Just plug in the ECU and turn the key to on position and let it sit for 3 minutes. Then start and enjoy.

giac doesnt solder, i dont think..

That's weird b/c mine was soldered. [8D] I think '00+ cars can be flashloaded (?).
