Default Display LED going faded

Has anyone had the LED display going faded so it can hardly be read in daylight?, (the one on the centre console showing fuel consumption, outside temperature etc)
Can anything be done about it, except getting a replacement for £400.......

Honestly never heard of it fading before. It sounds like an R&R type deal - usually those sorts of things are one piece and aren't worth the effort of taking apart to fix. Maybe you can get the part and do the R&R yourself.

My display is starting to get lines through it a bit. It's really not a necessity it's for show and if you want to shell out some $$ then get it repaired but other than that forget it.

i just purchased an instrument cluster off ebay a couple months ago for $100US. The odometer can be rolled forward one time with a VAG-Com. That's an option for you. If you are really technically gifted you can buy a used one and remove the display. There have been some posts on audiworld about this.
