Default Dip Stick Help

Hey I went to check my engine oil today and I took out the dipstick and there aren't any line markings on the stick. I wiped it off and it said made in Germany and has the audi sign on it so it looks like it's stock. It really doesn't sit well on the oil tube so that's why I thought it was aftermarket. It just kind of hangs there. I looked in the manual and it said there are 3 levels an A B and C and I didn't see anything. Also if someone could tell me where the tranny dipstick is. I have a standard. Thanks

Also, my oil level is way past the small indention on the stick, maybe an inch or so higher.

firstly replace the dipstick for one that's for the car ( too much oil can be as bad as too little ) you dont mention what age or engine the car has? but if its a 1.8T it hols 3.5 liters so to be on the safe side drain it and measure the amount you put back in that until you get the proper dipstick

Well I don't know if it's the stock one or not. It could be the one that came with the car, it probably is. The guy who had it before was like a millionaire who garaged it and everything. He even had the original window sticker that was on the car at the dealership. It's a 97 1.8t.

Manual transmissions don't have dipsticks.

The dipstick for oil doesn't have an A, B or C on it. Low is below the indent, full is in the middle of the hashed indent, C is above the has marks and indent.

Your dipstick is probably loose and showing overfill because the yellow/orange plastic dipstick "funnel has snapped off, letting the dipstick sit an inch lower than it should.

Well I realized later I was parked on an incline so the backend of the car was lower then the front in. That might explain the wrong reading. I looked on the dipstick and nothing seems to be broken. It just doesn't fit very well and you can wiggle it around. Can you show me a pic of how it should be? Thanks

I.E. the reason why I don't think the stick is broken is because there aren't any signs of it being broken in the past and no cracks. It just doesn't fit well. and it can be moved side so side and I don't want any contaiminents to get in even though there's still an oil filter.
