delay in 1st shifting after hard braking, why?
audi a4 1997 1.8t fwd
When I have to do a quicker than normal brake, the engine become disconnected and takes 3 seconds to clunk back into first so I can go again. THe harder the braking, the longer the time. Plus if I add gas the engine slams and leaps the whole car, so I have to be careful that when I notice it missed the shift, I wait for it to clunk in again before I add gas or it lurches when it finally does. What could cause this. I just had the ignition control and one coil pack replaced because it was misfiring and stalling after a hard brake. The vaccum system is having issues too, but i'm not sure what uses vacuum on my car, I thought the tranny was electronic.
I'm not familiar with the car enough to guess as my diagnoses of the last couple problems with it were way off, so does anyone know this problem, or suspect the source?

When is the lasst time you checked the fluids in your transmission?
Sounks like something isn't unlocking in the transmission.
I'd suggest
1 a real vagcom which can run tests on the transmissions for codes and output tests for the solenoids.
2. Check and change the transmission fluid.

I just had the transmission serviced, but it didn't fix the problem. It's also does it when it's cold.
Thanks for the help, i'm still not sure what exactly is the problem. i'm going to get the vaccum leak problem fixed that shows up as a code and hopefully that fixes it.
