RE: Dealer is actually cheaper for timing belt replacement?!?!
You'll NEVER know for sure. I would do it at 75k just to make sure. Some cars break at 70k, others at 100k. Don't risk it or you'll be in around $2,000 for repairs! If not 75k, defintely by 80k. When I called to make the appointment today, when I said my car has 89k the mechanic told me I had *****...haha...not a good sign!
Just my .02 cents.
LampyB.
ps. To put an end to this post, THE DEALER IS DEFINITELY NOT CHEAPER. Upon closer inspection, they were definitely fibbing to me...leaving sh*t out.

HA! My car is an 03........and I have at this moment 76,521 on it.
I was hoping to put it off to 90K OR dump it right before. I have 5 payments left on it.
I've had way too much go wrong with it within the past 4 years and I bought it brand new!
Thanks for the tip.....

I had mine done, with water pump,a few months ago at a certain (not sure if you are supposed to 'name name's' on the site) Audi dealer in south Denver... Littleton actually.
They did a great job. Quoted me $950 I think, but the bill was only $800 when I picked it up. I have a b5 quatro with 90k miles. I almost did it myslef, but didn't have a heated garage and waspretty busy at the time. Looking back, I probably should have done it myself, but it WAS convenient to drop it off in the morning and pick it up in the afternoon and haveit done.
