Default DBW?

How does one find out if their A4 is DBW? also... i have noticed that when ordering parts there is a ATW motor, an AEB motor.... what is the differences and how do i tell?

can i ask how you know that.... and also where i would find it myself.... and is ATW a DBW or are they not associated? im very confused about this DBW thing... i dont know much about it

best way, look at your engine. look at the right lower side of the engine and you'll see the code.

Look at your throttle body, if you see a plug-in like the one circled in red, then it's DBW. Also here is a pic of what the DBW unit looks like inside.

here is the break down..
96-99.5- AEB NON DBW
00-ATW DBW uses a different head with smaller ports and has a secondary air pump (which is yag by the way) same bottom end as the AEB also has a different ignition module no more ICM
01-AWM- even smaller ports, and different bottom end, almost positive no more forged pistons- not positive.. and its DBW

there are more differences but thats the basics i dont know much about the 01+ engine codes..

is DBW a bad thing? i mean i know it is there for a reason... but is there any draw backs to having DBW as opposed to nDBW?

Is there any way you can convert a Non DBW to a DBW? Just wondering. I like the feel of the DBW pedal more.
