8E0 is for the B6 & B7. They never made a RNS-E for the B5, so you get the A6 model & modify it to fit the B5.

Yes, every NAV unit needs software to run. The RNS-E uses a DVD that you can get on line or from the Audi Dealer. If you want an older(2004) map disk I have one.

 

I know its for the newer ones but AUDI says it will still work. They said its pretty much plug and play you just need to do some fabrication for it to fit right and you need the software

 

All the RNS-E's are the same unit. It's the faceplate that is different. Yes, it will work, but fit like POOP. The color is also going to be off.

The CLOSEST thing that fits ok for the B5 is the A6 unit. It will work with the Nav Map CD, you just can't use the Nav function until you put in the DVD.

Trust me on this, you DO NOT want the 8E0 unit for a B5. It's way to narrow on all sides. Sure you can fab stuff up, but the face plate is integrated into the unit & is a PITA to try & change. Even the A6 one is not perfect & takes a lot of work.
