Cutting out at 1200 RPM??
So I have been abusing my 99 A4 1.8T and it's finally coming back to haunt me. I've been traveling for work so I let my car sit for about 4 months with a dead battery. Came home jumped it and it ran fine but wouldn't take a charge. No big deal just figured the battery was dead. Let it sit for another two weeks while I was out of town, changed the battery and now it starts and idle's fine but completlycuts out at exactly 1200 RPM? So if you rev it to 1200 it stops firing and usually it will catch at 6-700 rpm and surge back to 1200 if you keep the throttle down or sometimes it will stall completly. I was thinking it could be a plugged CAT or fuel suppply issue but the fact that it happens at exaclty 1200 RPM each time makes me think it probably has something to do with my computer failing? The check engine light did come on but not immediatly. This all started last night and my car is now stuck at Long Term parking in the airport so I haven't been able to read the codes. I'm just trying to see if this is something you guys have seen before and I can fix myself or if I just need to bite the bullet and tow it to the nearest shop. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Mark

RE: Cutting out at 1200 RPM??
i've replied on the old post, but now that i've read your situation i can tell you that re-adapting the electronic throttle control valve is exactly what you need to do. my 99 A4 2.8 also sat around for a few months with a dead battery and then would not rev up past 1500or so.i first tried all the diagnostics i could think of or find onlinewith no luck. Then i used VAG-COM software on my laptop connecting it to the car with an ODBII cable that i bought on ebay. you will need instructions on exactly which address to re-adapt. Or you can have the dealer do it for about a $100.
