Default crappy lower molding

Recently I painted my lowers and noticed that the rubber molding on the bottom of the right rear door doesn't fit perfectly. It looks like its clipped on but the metal has rusted off so it no longer holds. I don't even know why its there in the first place but whatever. My question is how can I make it stick, would glue work?...Somehow I just sounded like a ricer, damn it.
