Default Completely Baffled - Help!

Yesterday I spent about 5 hours getting to the EGR and checking it. It wasnt bad. It wasnt clogged either. The only thing that look suspect was some of the vacuum tubing, which I plan on replacing. The only thing I had an issue with was the brown vacuum tube that went directly into the EGR on the top. It was semi clogged and got carefully blown out with an air hose. Anyways, I put everything back together and now my car is getting even worse gas mileage. I just made a trip to school today which is about 30ish miles round trip and used 1/4 tank of gas. 75% of the trip is highway also. Some people are claiming PCV, may be the culprit? (This all started when I failed echeck last week with a P1408 - EGR flow insufficent code)

Im totally stuck. I cant get plates and my car is driving like a 70's muscle car's efficency. Anyone help me out?

did u read this info on EGR http://www.engine-light-help.com/egr-valve.html

u have 96 audi, what i noticed all the original tubes dries out after few years and cracks, looks like u bended some of the tubes and it cracked even more. replace vacuum tubing and keep us updated.

to be honest, i have no idea y m/g so low...

What sort of fuel MPG were you observing? Do you have any stored trouble codes?

I replaced the worst vacuum hoses, and so far I drove only 8 miles and I can see a drop in my gauge in fuel. That just effing ridiculous. Im going to spray some WD40 by the EGR and see if something happens. I cleared all the codes and LN2 still comes up. I dont know what else to do. The o2 sensors are fine also.

Also I believe the trouble codes were P1408 and maybe P0408, or 0408 or something. I should have wrote the last one down, but I think they both mean EGR related codes.

ive put about 55 miles on since I got the new hoses, and cleared codes. Seems like im getting much better MPG (about 20-22). Now I need to see if the EGR code is kicking back on after this drive cycle.

Ok I took it into echeck again today after about 120 miles since I reset the codes and checked the EGR. The EGR worked fine and was not clogged at all. So I put the OEM one back on. After getting to echeck they come up with the same code. Insufficent EGR flow. I replaced a suspect looking hose going from the EGR to the vacuum hosing. I guess I could replace them all, but wtf gives? I dont know what else can be doing this and im in DIRE need to get thru echeck. If anyone can help me please do, I can figure this one out!!

P1408 = exhaust gas recirculation temperature( EGRT)sensor - high input,
faults could be wiring short to ground, ground wire defective, EGRT sensor bad

after i reset the codes and reran it thru echeck it only came up with 0408 code. EGR flow insufficent. Do you still think the EGR 'sensor' is bad? I dont know where to start
