Default Coil Pack, Easy to Install?

03 Avant 3.0, started it up yesterday after work and cel popped up (kept flashing)and the car started to hesitate. I felt like it was running on 4cyl's. I made it home luckily. Who can tell me how they come off? I can see the clip connected to them, do you pop the clip to reveal bolts/screws underneath? I like to know if I can diy or drive it down to the mechanic. thx paul

Default RE: Coil Pack, Easy to Install?

Thx again for the detailed intstructions, I just finished installing it. It cost $30 from dealer, 1hr , and one scratched nuckle. I didn't know which one was bad so I just started replacing one at a time and it turned out to be right front. I could tell that it might be that one, because it was harder to pull off and it had a burnt smell to it. My advice to others if you're going to diy, make sure you have the right sizestar bit for the screws holding down the wire loom. Just curious what would have been the labor rate to installthis at a service shop or dealership. My back is just not as flexible as it used to be.

You wouldn't happen to have the instructions for a 2001 1.8t.. or is it pretty much the same?

I think I know what I'm doing, but directions would help a lot and possibly prevent me from messing up my car.

the 1.8 is so easy, pop the engine cover and pull the coil out, unplug it, put a new one in and your done. you shoudl do the plugs at the same time though. i have a full set of spares in my trunk at all times.

even easier on the 4 cylinder engine as wigget says,

edit: missed the important bit lol

4-cyl. 5V engines (turbocharged):

–
Remove engine cover panel.

–
With the ignition switched off, disconnect the connectors from the ignition coils.

–
Unscrew and remove the ignition coils -arrows-.

–
Remove spark plugs using spark plug socket -3122B-.

–
Install new spark plugs.

–
Install ignition coils. Renew seals if damaged.

personally its not a ridiculous question by any means the engine bay can look like a very clean area with all that covers it so the obvious is not always easy to see unless you have done it before but now your learning DIY so its worth the answers
