code 301&302 same time 2000 a4 quattro
these two codes driving me crazy, missfire and cough when cold, but smoothes out when warm but still seem to be in limp mode.
new plugs one new coil pack (waiting on more to be shipped) but have sitched them around with the same codes present. while driving down the road with the scanner connected, as soon as the code appears in the computer, they reaqd out both codes. you would think it would show up one at a time. any help??? thanks

Try this for starters:
check fuel injectors
check gap on spark plugs--try copper plugs if you have in platinum or iridium plugs
check engine coolant temperature sensor(aka ECTS). This is the likely culprit. You could just replace it--it's a cheap part, less than $20.I suggest you try logging it on vag-com to check it first. The ECTScan causeAF mixture problems at startup. They are known to cause rich conditions when they start to go bad which lead to misfires.

greatly appreciated, I know what the codes mean, Im trying to find out if anyone has had this situation. in looking through the posts seems like it resembles bad icm, yet this year&model doesnt have an icm or a power amplifier. thanks again

are you fairly sure? I question where it would be located,do you have any ideas? I took out the one directly behind the rear center of engine along the firewall, I assumed that was the only one. thanks

There is a seperate sensor in the lower radiator pipe. It's my understanding that this is the sensor that reports the coolant tempfor the gauge.
The sensor in the schematic is the one you may need to replace.
