Cluster Gauge Messed Up... Can it be replaced?
I recently went and looked at an A4 I was interested in. It only had 39,000 miles, but had been in a minor accident which deployed the airbags. When I took it for a test drive, I noticed the part of the gauge cluster that tells you your Gas Milage was not working. Random pixels were just lit and change every once in a while. I asked the owner of the car about it, and he said it was due to the airbags going off and the controller not being replaced. This didn't make since to me, but that is why I am here. Would replacing the airbag controller fix the gauge cluster?

that seems early for the pixels to go bad but anything is possible this would not be due to the accident though needs a new cluster can not just replace the sreccn what year is it might still be under warrenty ?

It is a 2000. I am not sure of the exact details of the accident, but the only thing they replaced was the bumper (with an S4 bumper). Other than that, the only work they did on it was the fender (which even looks minor). Everything else is original.

well that would not cause a cluster to go like that and if it is a 2000 it will not have the factory warrenty anymore but could have aassured warrenty is it privite deal or dealer ?

Private... I think the guy who owns it knows less about than I do. He said he bought it because he was trying to look for a "realistic car" to replace his Mazda Miata. He drove it a few times to work and sometimes in the snow and decided he was just going to drive his miata because it was more of a sports car.

If you plan on replacing the cluster, here is some info (Mine just crapped out so I did a little research). It's gonna cost $4-500 for a new or a rebuilt one, unless you can find one at a salvage yard, internet, or another cheaper means. Then, the dealership quoted me a labor price of 1.5 hrs which comes to $170. I'd say do it yourself if you have any mechanical skills, however, you need a VAG-COM to input the miles, etc. into the new cluster-digital display, so if you dont have access to one, you're screwed and are gonna have to go to the stealership.

Goto the 'Electronics' section/forum and read the cluster -digital display post. We talk about the problem here, but I dont know if this particular cluster problem is ultimately related to the airbag problem.
