Thumbs down Clock spring part question

I have an audi a4 1999 quattro 2.8 engine.

the cruse not working, air bag light is on and tiptronic buttons on the steering wheel not working. I have a strong feeling that the clock spring is bad and i want to change it.

the problem is that the aftermarket part for models without tiptronic on the steering wheel is $40 and for my car there is no after market and is $400!!!

I would be really grateful if anybody can answer this:
what would happen if i use the $40 one? simply the tiptronic wouldn't work or it will not work at all?

thanks...
