chassis vs. engine classification
hey im sorta new to this and i keep reading that ppl seem to be refering...
more towards the type of engine rather than the chassis coding...
like instead of saying a4 97 b5...
they would write 97 1.8t.
or 2.4lt 97 a4...
is that the same thing???
in other words
can i get parts from a 1.8t or 2.4ltr a4 b5 and slap that into a base model b5???
thanks guys im confused

RE: chassis vs. engine classification
b5=96-01 and can be either 1.8turbo or 2.8 naturally aspirated (no forced induction like a turbo or supercharger)
there is no such thing as a 2.4l
b6=02-05 and can be either 1.8T or 3.0 N/A
b7=05.5-present and can be 2.0T or 3.2 N/A

RE: chassis vs. engine classification
All VAG engines have a 3 digit code to identify it. Various 1.8t's in the US could be AWM, AEB, AMB etc. They were found incertain model years. AMB I think was the last of the 1.8T's in the A4 before 2005. Before that engine, it was the AWM. I think before that was the AEB? I don't know about the V6's though.
