fires from overheating usually combusts from the cat because it can get quite hot. Also, if you have leaky cats or have oil leaking from your motor getting on it, it will combust once it's hot enough... usually happens in traffic jams, or when you stop the car and get out... All those people burning on the side on hot summer days.... that's usually the story...

Anyone who buys an oem cat from the dealer is either out of his mind or trying to keep the car oem for resale... There are plenty of other options for fractions of the cost.... for example: oem cat (1) = $475 VS custom exhaust (flex pipe, y-pipe, HFC, piping to resonator) = $300

ANOTHER THING:
Why is it that there are so many threads about cats all of a sudden??? doesn't seem coincidental.... Any reason why so many cats failing??? [:@]

I have to take my A6 in this weekend to see if the CAT is going out. If it is... I have set aside 600 bucks to fix what ever the problem is. Would 600 bucks buy me an exhaust with installation?

I'm out of warranty. I called the dealer fo find out the price for parts and labor, they quoted me 190 bucks for labor, that's high, but still not bad consider it's stealer. And I called to find out about the parts, right, and they quoted me $1000 for a rebuild cat, I was like hahaha.............and they guy even admited that it's crazy price, and he told me that some people would actually pay for that because they're either rich, or they're don't have much knowledge or didn't do any research, they thought that's it.....

so 1000 for a rebuild cat? who wants one? I could problem buy 5 high performance cat for a bit more...........

BTW, i'm going to buy one from esctunning........for a 100 bucks, who do you install cat yourself? Anybody know?

I'm not taking it to a stealer. I found a pretty popular performance shop that is certified to work on Audis. Also get 10 percent off parts and labor if your a member of Audi Clubs of North America. I'll see what they say.

I'll see what they charge this weekend. I'm kinda scared to go to those muffler shops. I guess you can't really screw up exhaust...
