Default car covers : worse than nothing ?

2008 A4 2.0T Quattro manual sedan , deep sea blue pearl effect

A friend of mine who has used car covers on his expensive cars for years now says thatthey're worse than nothing.

Basically, his claim is that unless you keep the car cover meticulously super clean, little pieces of dirt, metal chips, etc. scratch the paint on your car.

What do people think ?

Thanks.

I've never been a real big fan of car covers, either. Your car is gonna get dirty, that's why you wash it. lol.

Plus, the fitted covers that I'velooked at were in the $200 range. Just not worth putting on everynight, IMO.

if you are keeping the car outside with a car cover, then it does more harm then good

if you are keeping it inside with a cover, just to keep dust off, then its okay

it depends on where you live and what you pay. in fl, i used it on non-rain expecting days just to keep the sun off. worked fine. really saved the paint and interior. also, it was $200+. i guess too, i dobuy my cars to drive them so im not super **** bout care. i know people that was and wax weekly, dust off daily. not me.

My freinds dad uses them to cover his expensive cars but i dont know why because his garge is cleaner then his house. i just think its a wast of money. if you are worried about the sun damaging your interor then park in the shade

im was refering to the work parking lot. the car sat for 8hrs a day in fl sun. its a small city so no parking garages. all the other companies in the building started an hour before us (actual real 9-5 m-f job. dont see that) and shade spots were prime, all 3 of them for 100+spots, and thus taken. if you're worried bout the sun park in the shade. DUH? no kidding. come on. really, you think? but, when you can't, you create your own. car cover.

but yeah, this does bring the question are you looking for practical, im protecting the car from the elements, or im keeping dust off the car in the garage since i dont drive it for weeks @ a time?
