Can Tire Shine Be Bad?

Can Tire Shine Be Bad?
I've heard that tire shine products can gradually break down the sidewall of the tire. I use black magic tire shine, and I don't think there's any signs of deterioration. Does anybody know if tire shine is bad for tires, and if it is, what else is there to use? I personally think tire gel the greatest thing ever, so naturally I was suprised to hear that I was doing something bad for my car. Let me know what you think. Thank you for your time!!

tire shine takes off the top layer so it makes your tires shinny, and yes over time you're side walls will deteriorate, but you should burn through your tires wayyyyy before that ever happens.

since we are on the tires thing how about waxing your wheels. imo that makes getting the brake dust off easier later on. but i think i have solved the problem, i got some antracite colored wheels

tire shine wont hurt ur wheels that much, but makes the car look much better..but i work at a car dealership and im a car detailer...and u should wipe off all of the tire shine off the rims because it could hurt the rims eventually.

for keeping the wheels clean, if you are consistantly washing the car (weekly, even bi-monthly), i find that most alloy wheels do not take too much elbow grease to get break dust and road grime off them, assuming you wash regularly.
My sister has the same car as me, and same wheels, altho, my wheels clean much nicer, and easier than hers. This is simply b/c her road grime got a chance to cake in, and needs a much stronger wheel cleaner solvent to break the bonds to clean it up.

Just to give you a hard time, bi-monthly is every 2 months, bi-weekly is the same as semi-monthly- or every other week. Ha, sorry I got hounded by my boss for slipping up the other day so I figured i"d pass it along!

Regular wax will not hold up long on a wheel. You need to buy a poly or urethane enhanced wax for the wheel - but even then it won't last all that long. I wax my wheels when I take them out of storage in spring. Then it's just washing them the rest of the season.
Like 04A4 says, your tires will be useless long before the sidewalls crumble from the silicone in the tire shine. One exception to that would be a show car that does not get new tires every couple years.
The tire shine I use is the Meguires aeresol spray can... I forget the name of it.
