Default calling bullsh**!

So I out new brake pads on my car today and when I took off my wheels I noticed my driver side front tire was getting really bald on the inside. All the others had been previously replaced due to Discount Tire's warrenty. Today however when I went into have them look at it, the guy asked me if I owned a Quattro. I of course said yes. He said "if you have a quattro and only buy one tire and the tread depth is different from the rest, in the least bit, it will mess up your Quattro system". BullSh**. I told him, if that were true how come you did not tell me about that the other three times I have come to get a tire change. Also, obviously the tread depth on that tire is different right now and the Quattro is still working great! I know your trying to sell up and all but come on. There is no way that this is true.

With the way 4Motion (the FWD cousin of the Quattro system) works, that is true, but with true Quattro, it's not.

so if I were to have 4motion, it would actually mess up the system. That's crazy!

Yeah, because of the way the center diff works. 4motion doesn't have TorSEN

If you had a TT or A3, you get 4motion with a Quattro badge

I don't see how having one bald tire while the others are brand new could affect the quattro system. Only staggered wheels can do that.

I don't know the ins and outs of the system, but I do know this is true with Subaru's AWD.

A friend of mine was in a car-crash. She need 1 new wheel and 1 new tire. To save money, the dealership 'broke-in' the tire by reducing the tread and having it match the others.
