BUY 1.8T or 2.8 quattro? need info and specs.
hey, im looking to buy an audi, and im really new to the audi world. i am confused between a 98 a4 1.8t quatt or a 2.8 quattro? i hear taht there are much less mods for the 2.8 but im on a tight budget, so im only looking to put rims and an exhaust on the car? which would i be better off with for power for my money , and is one more reliable than the other? i need a car soon,
thanks
PS, i feel dumb asking this but when i called a guy about his 2.8 and asked about teh timing belt he said it didnt have one? do the 2.8's have timing belts? thanks again ,
thanks

hahahahaha all cars have a timming belt... audis have diffrent name for it, but yes it is a timming belt... both cars you will be reliable it just depends on how you maintain it... if you give these cars reuglar maintance they will run forever..strong cars... Get the 2.8 in your case if all you plan on doing is exhaust and rims....less maintance. the 1.8 wont have to worry about leaks and turbo issues...altho small mods on the 1.8 like chip and exhaust will make it feel like your driving a totally diff car... its your call

alright thanks,
im definatelythinking about getting the 2.8, i found a mad good deal on one, it comes with two engines for spare parts, itsg ot 130 000kms which is about 85 000 miles. S4 interior and S4 rims on it. super super clean, it was female owned, and its cheaper than the 1.8 i was looking at with same kilometers. so im thinking 2.8. but for the exhaust is there less options for the 2.8? cause its the one big thing i want on my audi. and about the timing belt, thanks for making me sound like an idiot! haha it was a french guy at a dealership and i gess he didnt understand timing belt, so i questioned wheather the 2.8 was a special case and had no belt.
thanks
till next post

good call on the 2.8 especially if you really arent modding. its a lot smoother car with nice options. i regret ever getting the 1.8T as i really diddnt plan to mod. but i got a great deal. i guess i will have to atleast get chipped and a new DV. what year and whatnot are you looking at?

great, tahnks for the info,
the only concern i have about getting a 2.8 is the insurance, cause im only 17 its gonna be myy first car, so its gonna be crazy expensive i think. but in replyu to someones post, sorry forgot who it was, im looking at a 98 2.8 quattro, its metalic green ( not my favourite) 5 speed manual, with 85000 miles. it has S4 interior and S4 mags, the guy says it comes with two engines, one engine he bought for spare parts? sounds a little sketchy. what do you guys think?
thanks again.
