Breather tube crack

RE: Breather tube crack
Thanks all. Pilot, I was told by the dealer that unless I replaced mine, I "might" get a CEL (had my head scratching for a minute, you mean Check engine light).
oh1a4, checked out websites you recommended. Zimmerman seems to only show up for front rotors ($50 like you said). The only rear ones I see are ATE ($26.95) and they seem to be smaller size. Are the rear ones smaller because it's a FWD (I don't have a Quattro)?I wouldn't want to do the brake job myself but was thinking to take it to a local mechanic at the Shell station, Midas? I imagine the Mintex brake pads are good too.
Also, there is only one breather tube in this car, right? Does anyone have any pics of where it is. Thx.

RE: Breather tube crack
sorry, didnt realize it was rear rotors, but yes, all ofour oem b5 a4rear rotors are smaller, regardless of fwd/q. there are upgrade options for the rear as well (such as A6 255mm rotors or A8 269mm rotors) but you will have to mod the caliper carrier (front kits come with TT carriers and fit without grinding.)
ate is fine too.
if you really like the look of slotted rotors, blauparts has a niceorbital slottedrotors, front and rear(they have plain ones too, which i recommend sticking with, but thats just me.)
sorry for the thread jack since this was originally about breathers, just trying to help.

RE: Breather tube crack
Hi guys I'm about to replace mine too but i have no idea how to get to it....i spent 1 hour just trying to get the nub of the old breather hose off my crankcase and all i have is lots of bruises on my knuckles....is there any way of taking it off without taking off the intake manifold and could someone spell it out for me?
Thanks
David

RE: Breather tube crack
thanks man....going to try it tonight after work....is the cel you are getting 16795 for secondary air injection? if it is you might need a new secondary air injection pump (smog pump at discount auto parts) and a pcv valve.....they seem to be problems with mine that i hope will go away once i fix the hose and replace the pump and valve.

RE: Breather tube crack
I broke mine when I did my sparkplugs. Its right in the way and its almost like they put it there so that you would break it when the end of the sparkplug wire comes off. For the V6 that stupid hose is like $75 on ECS.
I just got some shrink tubing, slid 3 separate peices up the tube and then slid them back down over the crack one at a time and heated them up. It makes a pretty good seal, cost me almost nothing (if you have a heat gun or go ghetto and just use a lighter), and was a lot easier than replacing the whole hose. It stronger than the original hose was too. Think about giving this a try. That hose is just a breather hose, not like it is pulling or pushing air around. Very, very little actually moves through it. Its a little ghetto, but much better than using tape etc.
