I have a late 97 Audi A4 1.8. Recently on a journey back from work I heard a beep and the warning light was flashing and the ABS light was constantly on. I pulled over and switched the car off and the on again and both lights went out. This has happened to me one more time since. Yesterday, I was also driving from work and when I pressed the brake pedal I could hear a grinding type noise. This noise does not happen all the time when I press the brakes but is intermittent. I have checked the brake pads and they seem to be fine. Anyone know what could be causing me the problem and how expensive will it be to repair?

 

i would pull the brake pads off and see if there is any kind of cracks on them, that will cause noise, i would also look at the rotors to see if there are any marks on them too.
