Blown Engine!

RE: Blown Engine!
I have 2001 A4 in which the engine oil pump just failed about two weeks ago.
That is how long the dealer has had my car, it took them at least a week to find out what the problem was.
Audi Corporate and the Audi dealership both reported to me that use the wrong oil for an every 10k mile oil change.
They have been using petroleum instead of synthetic, which cause the engine oil pump to fail.
Audi said that they would pay for everything if my maintenance records were in order.
Which they state that one is in question and wont pay for it; the problem record occurred 3 years ago.
In my last oil change approx. 8 months ago this was not a problem (still under warranty at the time).
Its going to cost about $3K to fix the engine.
I am going to seek legal advice, because there is a Technical Bulletin on from Audi Corporate.
I believe Audi should pay because of there inconsistency in using the incorrect oil.
Good luck

Hey Jest ... is the oil pump something older engines should be looking out for? With all this talk of blown motors due to failed oil pumps, I'm wondering if I should just change mine now ... preemptive strike.

RE: Blown Engine!
The problem is not the oil pump, but use of inferior oil and prolonged mileage between oil changes resulting in sludge that clogs the uptake screen. Change your oil every 5K, use full synthetic and use the larger oil filter and you will be fine.

RE: Blown Engine!
Personally I stay away from Synthetic, regardless of the car or what the manufacturer says. I hate the stuff & I have always used a 15w - 50 or 60w/w. It is the best for Turbo motors in my opinion. Semi synthetic is cool too. I like a good mineral base oil & as for people saying "oh the imperfections kill my engine" my response to those guys is "********, if a particle that you need a microscope to the power of 2000x blows up your engine..... It was gonna blow up anyway".
