If I remember correctly, I believe that a dust cap is a cone-shaped ring that intersects where the center cap on the speaker meets the cone. Did that make any sense at all????
Picture an ice cream cone, then cut off the top 1/3" or so, and voila, my recollection of a dust cap.
I'm probably wAY off......but I had a rattling "dust cap" if that's what it is, in my (...gulp...) '88 GTI 16v. I had to glue it back onto the cone.
Roll another one.
