Blinking check engine light
I have a 2002 A4 1.8T....was driving this afternoon when all of a sudden I lost significant power and my CEL started blinking. I called the dealership and they asked me to park it and have it towed over there, furthermore they are backed up so if I bring it in todaymy car won't be fixed until next week. Does anyone know what it could be ? I had a similar problem when i had a VW passat and it ended up being the ignition control module. Does the a4 have one of those too ? how much do you think it'll cost ? I live in Orlando,Fl does anyone know a place outside of Classic Audi where I can get my car fixed since they are so backed up and expensive ? Thanks pple

we would need to have you VAG the car and find out what codes are being thown. You could go to autozone and buy a tscanner hen tell us and we could help you out. other than that we can't help without more info. lot of possible things can cause it. but listen to the dealer - don't drive your car - blinking CEL is bad.

RE: Blinking check engine light
02's dont have ICM's. And a flashing CEL means a misfire, so Im betting its a bad coil pack. Possibly a cracked spark plug (it happens.)
To find out:
Firstpull your plugs and check the conditions. Look for fine hair-line cracks on the porceline part.
If they look ok, go to autozone, get ecu scanned. Youll have at least two fault codes. One will me "Random/multiple misfire detected" The other fault code will point to which specific cylinder is misfiring. So if you get a Cyl 2 misfire code, swap the coil pack on cyl. 2 with cyl. 3, drive for a half day, get ecu re scanned. If you now have a cyl. 3 misfire, you know its the coil pack. Get it?

9 times out of 10 it's a failed coilpack. You can pick one up for $30-40 at a local Audi or VW dealership and swap it in yourself. If you don't know which one it is, do musical coilpacks (swap one, try it, swap the next, try it) until you find the bad one.
Pick up a spare or two while you're at it. They take 5 minutes to swap.
