Default best streetable turbo setup

the options im thinking

gt3071r .63 ar on 1.8
gt2871r .63 ar on 1.8
gt3071r .63 ar on a 1.8 bored out to 2.0
gt2871r .63 ar on a 1.8 bored out to 2.0
gt3076r .63 ar on a 1.8 bored out to 2.0

can anyone list those in order of best to worst for a street setup, and how much of a difference there is between them.

ok forget the boring out stuff. its between the 2871r and the 3071r on a 1.8. i could either go into slight debt right now and get a great deal and get a full 2871r kit for around 1500 or have to wait until i get some money in the bank and buy a gt3071r for around 3-4 g's.

you need new rods with a gt2871r too. there are guys running stock rods on a .82 AR but with the quicker spooling .63 the torque could bend/snap a rod. im going with some scat rods, and thinking bout upgrading the pistons, but is it even worth it?

the GT2871R in .64 trim is a perfect turbo for a street car. it has just the right amount of power to have fun, and its not too large where you have much, if any, turbo lag.

i have never seen that turbo disapoint anybody. on my buddy's SR20DET i have his GT2871R .64trim at around 12-14psi and its putting down 280whp using only an SAFC for tuning. I'm going to chip his ECU in a few weeks and push for 350+whp. basically going to max out this turbo. maxing it out shouldn't be that much more than 350whp though.

Yes, it is most definitely worth it upgrading pistons. Stock pistons are not forged, they're cast, they're not going to take NEARLY as much power as forged units. Plus, if you're replacing the rods, why wouldn't you spend the extra few hundred dollars to get some good pistons in there?

Nobody runs a T3 .82 housing. You mean a T25 .86. The .86 is a safer housing, but you need to keep the revs high to keep it spooled. People with a .64 gt2871r see 20+ psi by 3800rpms and the .63 should be about the same but make more power since the housing is a little bigger and will flow better. The gt3071r will hit 20+ psi between 4000-4200 depending on the setup. You can get away with running a gt2871r with 20-22psi with a good tune and boost control daily. This should net you around 300whp in awd and if you throw in some rods, you can get more out of it daily @24psi daily and with 100+ octane or w/m running 28psi
