Default bad sounds

ok, im getting some weird noises.... when the cars not warmed up and the a/c is on i get a noise that is like a vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv with kind of a rattle to it...

i also get a whine from 1000-1500 RPMs in gear or not, louder in gear, louder w/ any air on, louder in the car than in the engine bay.

anyone have any tips on either of these 2 sounds?

If this only happens when your a/c is on, then there's a good chance
that something's wrong with the air compressor. I would take it to an air conditioning specialist to get it checked out.
Q; Does the a/c still produce cold air?

Otherwise it could be a belt that requires re-tensioning.

Could either be real cheap or real expensive to fix

well, the deal is, if its real expensive to fix, and if it has to do w/ the ac, i will just pull the fuse on the a/c for a while(as long as nothing else important is run on the same fuse), i live in boone, NC where the a/c isnt needed for a while...

hopefully its just a tension problem and is cheap

btw, i get real cold air w/ the ac on.

forgot to mention, you can feel the 2nd sound in the steering wheel....

its kinda like when you turn your steering wheel all the way in one way and it starts whining like its doesnt have the power to turn further, even though its being blocked, or when the wheels are blocked from turning like from a curb, but you try turning the wheel anyways.

This is really really late to the original post, but I've had a set of problems with the A/C in my 2000 TT. The whole compressor, receiver/drier and restrictor plate died at around 68,000 miles. I e-mailed Audi with the history of the car, and they did a great job of taking care of it at no cost to me. Now I'm 22,000 miles down the road, and the whole thing is gone again. My friendly neighborhood Jim Ellis Audi service dept is quoting $2300 to replace the whole thing. Ow. Being and engineer, I'm wondering why it's failed again. in my mind, it's either;

1. Defective (maufacturing fault induced premature failure)
2. Poor installation (installation induced premature failure)
3. Poor Design (design fault induced premature failure)
4. Poor Maintenance (induced premature failure)

The poor service writer has no idea how to answer my questions, and I never can talk to a mechanic about exactly what is wrong with anything, or why it may have failed....

Any thoughts?
