b@stard heater
Well, here in East London, England, the weather has turned from being mildly sh!te to absolutley 'day after tomorrow' style cold. And my heater on my '98 A4 has stopped working. Bastard.
I have trawled through the missives and replies from other posts, and have gleaned as much info from them as possible, but I wondered if anyone has had the same problem.
Basically the A/C display works, the compressor works (the engine note changes when I turn it on), the blower works, but no glorious face meltingly hot air.
Once the engine is hot, warm air (one might say tepid) wafts through, but I assume that is just air that has gone over the engine block, and has been heated up that way.
The air that does blow through is not stone cold, so something is happening, but not to the ammount that I would like it to.
As far as I am aware there are no moving parts to go wrong, the water is all topped up, there are no leaks, and I am close to reaching the end of my tether and giving the car a damn good thrashing.
Any replies would be most appreciated.
Cheers

P.S. I have no access to a Vag, other than my girlfriend, who wouldn't be much use in this situation.

RE: b@stard heater
Maybe your heater core is plugged up and it’s not getting the hot coolant flow through it. Or your thermostat could be stuck and not letting water flow through the engine, just a guess but hope it helps.....

The other possibilities is the flap valve which directs air over the heater core.
First check for hot water going to and out of the hoses to the heater core. If they are cold, or only one is hot then you have either an air block or a blocker heater core. If they are both hot, then you could have a problem with the flap valve.
If you have access to a VAGcom run tests on the HVAC system for codes.

Let us know if the thermostat replacement works for more than a day or two...
