Default Automatic transmission please help!

I have Audi A4 1,6 1996 with automatic transmission. It hapened recently, when I start the engine in the morning, or after a few hours - in drive mode the car won't go or tries to start ,goes few meters and stops , looks like it's slipping, but after about 50 meters of this kind of transmission operation everything is ok. and works perfectly.
Does anyone had similar problem or knows what is going on?
Thanks,
Jan

Have you done any basic maintenance, like checking the level of the transmission fluid? No fluid/no go.

Has your transmission ever been serviced? I know ZF claims the fluid is "lifetime," but I don't believe it for a minute, and neither do alot of the guys over on BobIsTheOilGuy.com. Also, if you do have a leak, your fluid level by now IS too low.

If it were my transmission, I would take it to a reputable local transmission specialist for a full pan drop and filter and fluid change. It will cost you almost $300, which is alot cheaper than a new or rebuilt box from ZF.
