Default autodimming rearview mirror leak

have the autodimming mirrors on my 00 avant. the other day i had a blackish fluid dripping from the bottom of the rearview mirror and the mirror has a "darker" area now. moreover, the mirror now constantly looks dirty. its not, but its no longer clear. my driverside has the same "dark" areas. any ideas as to the fluid/how to replace it/is it a problem? also, my car has reeeaaallllly dark tint windows, so i can't tell if the autodim is no longer functioning. thanks all. and thanks to all for all previous help.

mine is stuck between dim and not dim, there's a line near the top where the dim starts and ends.. it just stopped working all together.

Sounds like the seal has failed and the fluid is leaking. Auto dimming will fail.

Very common issue.

The mirror needs replaced. When I do mine, I am just going to replace with regular mirror glass.
To me the autodimming feature seems barely noticable, and just about useless. Its much more useful on the rearview rather than the side mirrors.

thanks all. it never really functioned like my toyota's due to the heavy window tint. i'll just see if the image clears, if not, i'll relpace it. again, thanks.

A normal mirror is not expensive, the auto-dimming are like 4 times the cost.

I think a regular one is around $40.

i'd bet you can just switch it w/a gentex. the base model (i researched them for my toyota) is about $100, but you can prob. search online for a better price.
