Hello,

I was curious to know what the life expectency of an auto transmission on a 96 A4 2.8Q is. I take very good care of mine, always putting on the handbrake etc. My car has currently 120K miles and I try to cater to all its needs. Recently, the mechanic told me that my car is slightly seeping transmission fluid and that I should probably get a new seal. But overall, are these durable transmissions? Also, does anybody know of any DECENT Audi mechanics in Santa Cruz, California?

i have heard that the auto trans for the b5's are not very reliable. I have the manual which is supposed to be very reliable. I haven't heard about nay auto's breaking but that is what the mechanic that works on my car told me.

 

A lot of that will depend on how the car has been driven. At some point most seals will likely leak, that does not necessairily indicate there is a problem with the tranny, other than the fact that it's leaking fluid. How much are you losing?

 

I'm loosing really little, my mechanic said I could wait on that.

 

Better make sure to change the trans fluid and filter every 50,000 miles, there is no such thing as lifetime fluid.
