yea on that thread where everyone was saying their milage, i was surprised to lean that arif had 130k because his car is all raced out and seems to sill be strong at 130k. (he may have rebuilt it though i have no idea)

audis do like to be driven so a fairly new car with high miles really isnt that bad. this means that most of those miles are highway so this is a good thing aswell. just get it checked out with a reputable mechanic, and keep up on all maintnence

the 2.8 seems to be more reliable simply because theres not as much parts to replace, lol..

When turbo goes = $$
Regular maint is the key, N/A or turbo.

I'd give a 2.8 the thumbs up, but a 1.8t at high mileage can be unreliable. Actually any high mileage tends to be expensive to repair. It's not that big problems happen often, it's just the sum of the little problems. Most can be fixed by the owner but they take it to the dealer and get charged an arm and a leg.

welcome to the forum......i've got a 97 a4 Q with 137k on it...still running nicely...it's
an auto trans so sometimes the brakes shift a tad bit jumpily...but other than that it seems
perfect...i had to get the regular main. done when i got it at 130k...so i'm keeping my
fingers and toes crossed...but for a 2000 with 114k miles? that's somewhat alot...just be
careful to check everything before you get it...

It all boils down to how much you beat the car lol If you drive it normally, normal wear and tear will occur. These cars were designed with spirited driving in mind, but there is a difference between spirited and beating lol. But yeah from what I've heard 2.8 is definately reliable and 1.8T is reliable but not as reliable.

ORIGINAL: bentframe

ORIGINAL: a4

If you want reliability, Audi isn't the way to go. Particularly not with 114K.
maybe you just got a lemon?

i've got 149k miles on my 2.8 and it still runs very strong...original clutch, engine, i did have to replace the tranny when i bought it though, but that's very unusual, our trannys are usually very solid...if you want reliability, go with the 2.8...the 1.8 is still reliable, but not as much as the 2.8, and if a 1.8 is neglected early on, it will not last much longer than 100k miles...on the other hand, if it's properly maintained, it can last over 200k miles...check out the thread below where people have posted their mileage...one guy did a k04 (big turbo) upgrade on his A4 with over 200k miles on the original engine and clutch.

i have to agree 100%, i have a 2.8, 1998 and it is going strong at 154,000 miles, original clutch and all, i love it, runs faster than stock too, and it is stock heh

I have a 2001 1.8t K03, I bought it about 5 months ago with 130K (commuters car) I have all of the records and everything has been done at the stealership. There was a problem around 125K the oil pump went and destroyed the engine. THe owner found out that there was a recall on the pump and audi replaced the engine. It's on its second clutch, second timing belt, what do you guys think will go next? just want to be ready... I made the mistake of taking it to the dealer for a checkup and an oil change when I bought it.... $160... anyone know a good mechanic at the jersey shore??

well i have 112000 miles on my car and i recently put a big turbo in the car. its running strong. as long as you maintain it the car will be fine. but if something does go wrong it will cost $$$. my throttle body crapped out on me right after i installed my turbo and it was pretty expensive. anyways, just like any car something could go wrong and that always costs money. every car has there problems so i woulndt worry about it. should be fine!!
