Audi Top Speed

RE: Audi Top Speed
Never had any room to do more than 175 actual (8-12% speedo error built in... 200 ind. = 175-180 act.). It's quick to get to 160, then takes a while to go over 190.
I did that a few years back on an abandoned airport runway at night. Not being able to see how much room you have left at those speeds, now that's a rush.
It's a completely different perspective, though. 120 on a bike feels like 60 in a car. People who don't ride can never understand. I rode for four years, though, two years exclusively, to the point that I got really sick of it. I'll take the AC/heat, leather seats, and windsheild any day over instant acceleration.

[:-] How can you say that! Snow best weather ever, all we get is cold and crappy drizzle all year round, with some sun in the summer. Snow if we're lucky is like 2" max, such a yawn when you want to get out and play in the car.

99 Hayabusa.
I've ridden it three times since getting the Audi two months ago. Once was to ride (in 20 degree weather) to the Audi dealer to get an oil cooler seal and license bracket.
Anyway, sorry about derailing this thread, it was, after all, about the Audi top speed. I get carried away sometimes.

RE: Audi Top Speed
1999 (the first production year) and 2000 are unrestricted. Official top speed is 194. Realistically, though, most people will only see mid-180s on a stock machine, depending on atmospheric conditions, altitude, rider aerodynamics etc. 2001-on are restricted to 186 mph or 300 kph, but this can easily be defeated with a simple, 2-cent 6.8K-ohm resistor, bypassing the gear position sensor.
The 190s to 200 you see quoted in magazines are done by professional riders (most likely your 130-pound pilot who can actually completely tuck below the painfully low windscreen) on not-so-stock machines. If your average Joe says he's been 200, figure it's indicated, which is 8-12% optimistic, built into all speedos from the factory. You need really need 200 RWHP to break 200 MPH. The stock ~156 doesn't quite cut it.
