Default Audi B5 Sunroof problems.

I recently developed a sunroof problem with my audi a4. I'm not quite sure what it is, but occationally when I drive the sunroof tilts up and when I try to close it the sunroof opens. So when I turn the ***, no matter which direction, the sunroof responds but before it closes it re-opens again. Even if I want to open the sunroof, it is no problem, but to close it, all hell breaks lose and im stuck in my car trying to get the damn thing to close for a good 5 minutes. I'm not quite sure if its the motor or electronical problems... someone please help.

had that problem for a while, now mine randomly opens as well so i just took the fuse out and no longer use it. could be dirty contacts or need a new relay switch.

to cut down on time trying to close it until you get it fixed, just help the glass while its closing, keep your hand on it until its fully closed

Same issue - I had best success closing using the key from outside the car - using one hand to help guide the glass - the passenger side seemed to hang up/drag and so the whole thing would bind and go into self-preservation mode and open back up - I bought my 96 A4 this past march, and probably changed the sunroof position several times a day for the first few months - then it started doing this and I backed way off - but it does sometimes pop up to vent position without me doing anything - I just smile and drive on knowing I can win the contest when I get where I'm going.

I'd guess that some lube is in order, but haven't looked further...

[align=left]I think I will have to try out that switch idea. How do you locate the switch?

It's in the trunk, next to the gas tank.

I have completely the same problem with it opening back up! Do you think it may just need to be lubed or is it somehow misaligned? Thanks.

Yes, it sounds like the sliders need to be lubricated with white lithium grease. Audi recommends this be done every 6 months, but no one ever does it.
