Audi A4 2.0 SE Multitronic problem
Hi Everyone, I'm having problems with my 2003 A4. My gear indicator lights are all flashing. This only starts after the first 5 minutes of driving from cold but then won't stop flashing. Next morning I start the car and after 5 minutes of driving the flashing starts again. The car drives perfect and the gears change smoothly without any problem. Has anyone got any ideas? When put on a friends diagnostic equipment it tells us "transmission range sensor no plausable signal" any advise and feedback would be agreat help![&o]

Pretty sure that means your TCU (Transmission Control Unit) or Transmission ECU as you called it, is in limp mode. Most of the time though it won't shift right. Have the TCU scanned for codes and see what it comes up with.
Also I believe the TCU is hidden in the front passenger side foot area. Pull the carpet up and then it's in that area. I will look around a bit for you.

RE: Audi A4 2.0 SE Multitronic problem
Andy, Yes I sorted the problem out. It was a faulty gearbox ECU. Audi wanted £2000 to sort out the problem with a new unit which was £585 and the rest labour charges. I managed to find a company that could repair ECU's and a Multitronic specialist who removed it from the gearbox and sent it for repair. Then re fitted when it arrived back. Total price including repair came to around £650 can't remember exact cost but it was loads cheaper than Audi. If you are in the UK the company'sI used were Inde-tech in Milton Keynes for the fitting and Autotek in Poole, Dorset for the repair. Both did an outstanding job. Also keep on top of the automatic transmission fluid, it does help to change it every 40000 miles. Good Luck.
