audi a4 1.8T power modifications
I am looking for Audi owners that have modified their 1.8 turbos and are willing to share some of their experiences. As with the rest of you, the acceleration for a dead stop to 30 mph is so slow it could be called dangerous. I am considering chips, exhaust, turbos upgrades, blowoff valves - you name it. I have called APT Turbo and the info I got was that a turbo upgrade would not do much because the 1.8' turbo is so small that a larger turbo would only move the torque curve futher up the rpm range. The dyno charts that I saw seem to contradict this statement.
Has anyone been successful in producing enough low end torque to make the investment worthwhile? By the way, mine is a tiptronic.

Yeah increasing the turbo size will increase the lag. But it's not really recommded with a tiptronic transmission. The tiptronic is slow to launch anyways. Adding a chip and exhaust will help a bit, but a BOV has nothign to do with power. It's purely for noise (and making your car run rich).

It seems by the last of responses I have hit a subject that has no good news. This seems to be an excellent forum and I appreciate the incredibly quick response. I am now considering if I should just sell this car and persue something with more potential.

Before you dump it, try a chip and a 710N Diverter valve. Made all the difference for me. Then again, I am way past the age of racing people at red lights.
Externally, I've kept the car bone stock. Internally, I put beanie babies in the rear window. Makes the car appear to be a real sleeper.

I have a "Baby on Board" triangle.
but yeah the A4 is a bitch to tune. it cost a **** load of money to modify. I would bother trying to sell it b/c you will get less than what you paid for it and that become frustrating

If anyone is concerned about reliability, I had the GIAC chip modifications done in 2004 when my A4 was brand new and have had no issue 240,000 kms and 8 years later.
Mine is a 6 speed stick, and you definitely notice the difference!
