it apparently loves oil
ok, theres no oil leak, at least nothing on gagage floor. had to add a quart at 5000 mi and another quart at 9100 mi. my car is the 4.2 engine S4. (no one would answer me on that forum). anything specific i can ask the dealer to look at? generally, i dont drive it hard (except for the 2 road trips i took) does this engine just drink the oil the same way it drinks the gas or do you think ther is a problem? any comments would be appreciated.

RE: it apparently loves oil
The rule with oil consumption is that it can only go two places - either onto the ground or out the tailpipe. If there's nothing on your garage floor check around the valve cover gaskets and all other places that you might find traces of oil leakage that wouldn't make it to the ground or that would only leak under pressure, i.e. with the engine running. If nothing, then you're burning it. Probable causes include rings and valve guide seals.

A quart in 5000 miles is nothing to worry about... car companies allow for a certain amount of oil consumption... there is a point, where if you burn more than X amount, they consider it a problem. But ALL cars burn some oil, it's just a matter of how much.
