amount of brake fluid in car
00 a4 avant 1.8t w/tip. let a friend drive my car. she didn't notice the BRAKE in bright red letters on the dash. she drove 3 miles with the parking brake on before enough fluid boiled out to lose the front brakes. fortunately, there was no accident, she drove on the grass shoulder til she got it to stop. i drove it home. now, i need to replace the brake fluid she lost, and to do that i need to borrow a car. i would really like to get enough in 1 trip. i don't want to short myself and need to hunt for a car again. anyone know how much our cars take? thanks.

Just get a big bottle so you dont have to worry about being short. If the resevoir was bonedry then there is probably air in the system and needs to be bled. Hopefuly the rear rotors arent too glazed/warped. Id just take it to a shop and have them bleed the system with new fluid. Might cost you $20.

big bottle, yeah, but i'm kinda limited to running out to target later tonight. i was reading in the bentley manual of expecting to use 1qt just to bleed them, and i don't anticipate target having sizes bigger than 1qt.

i was planning to take it in just to have the rotors checked, as i'm no expert. i just hate paying those guys for stuff i can do. also, i'm in a time crunch. i leave the state next week, and the last time the car went in, it took 3 days. but that included ordering parts. (trailering car)
