Default Aftermarket Head Units

I want to get an amp and 2 12 inch subs to fit into the sub box that came with my a4 when i bought it, but i dont know what i should look for/need. Are there any problems with using the the amp/subs with the oem concert head unit or should i look into a new one? i want clarity and to be able to feel the sub, i'm not looking to shatter windows. does anyone have any brands/products that they would recommend?

So you have a non bose system, thank god. Upgrading the bose system is a nightmare. If you want to have a nice clean system, I suggest a couple things... first off, I know you already have the box for 2 12s.... but 12's wont sound clean, unless you spend money. I reccomend one, quality 10" sub -- I run a JL 10w7, in the HE box... but something like an alpine Type X sub would be great as well. Even 1 12" sub, but like I said, 2 cheap 12's will not make you happy. Definately upgrade the head unit... you'll have way more control over your new set-up. If your speakers are stock, you can also amplify them, and get great sound out of them. I'd recomend a JL 300/4 for a speaker amp, and a JL 500/1 for a mono 'sub' amp. There are plenty of cheaper alternatives... how much are you looking to spend, all said and done?

eh well i would like to spend not more then 400, but i also dont want a cheap sound system, so if 400 is unreasonable for 2 subs an amp an a head unit then i am probably looking at about 600 at most.

Yikes, even 600 is a tough price point (the W7 sub alone in box is worth 600)... but yeah, lets see... ebay will be your friend. I am maintaining that you should just get 1 Good 10" sub. You simply don't have the money for 2 12's... sell your box, use the money to buy a good 10" single sub box. (sealed I find can be cleaner, ported will get you more bass). Don't forget wiring as well... You'll be able to get away with 8 guage wire, but here is what I reccomend.

I'd buy this immediate (auction ends soon!), its an amazing price, and high end wire: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...761004132&rd=1
head unit:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...761799948&rd=1
amp: (this id go up to 200 for... it seems like a lot for a 250 watt amp, but its 250 RMS so like 500 + peak)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW
sub: This w6 would be amazing.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...761704610&rd=1
alternate sub suggestion:

Let me know if you have any questions... but yeah, alpine head unit, JL amp, and JL sub... I recommend shooting for the 9827 head unit, the W6 sub in ported box, that sweet 250/1, and the street wires, you'd love it! and the street wires (buy those wires now, honestly, awesome deal, and great wire)

The oem changer will no longer work with an aftermarket head unit, unless you buy a blitz adapter... locally the adapters are usually really expensive (well, expensive for what they are ... around 80 - 100 bucks)... If you go with an alpine head unit, I have an alpine 12 disc changer I'd sell cheap. I'd definately buy an alpine head unit though, hands down, they are awesome. This MIGHT be the adapter you'd need to keep running the stock head unit... I'm honestly not sure though. Email crutchfield, and tell them you have whatever make model year car (specify non-bose system) and tell them you want to upgrade head units, and keep the stock changer... what do you need?

I think if you keep an eye on those auctions, you'd come in under 600 bucks after shipping and all that. But buy those street wires! 29 bucks, awesome awesome deal! They're worth twice that.

Oh, and if your not used to ebay... wait until the last 45 seconds of the auction, to place your bid... confirm your bid as close to the end of the auction as possible... that way, you might out bid somebody, and they wont have time to increase their bid. Sneaky sneaky!

Haha why didnt you buy the wires!? SUCH A GOOD DEAL! lol, comes with RCA's and everything! If you dont buy them now, expect to pay either the same amount for GARBAGE wiring, or spend about 65 - 70 on that exact kit. My wiring has cost me about 300 bucks! Rca's are 80 each pair, and I need 3 pairs! Plus 4 guage wiring, distro block, all the other crap... it adds up. So buy that kit, you get everything you need, in one little pkg. So sweet!

here is the relisted auction:
