I would think that if its stuck on, it most likely the temp sensor broke - except unlike everyone else who's break to the off position, maybe yours is stuck on the on position - does it go on high and low settings or is it just always on? search my name over the last week or so and you should find a thread on how to test the sensor and what part # you would need - if you have a 1.8t

check this thread - https://www.audiforums.com/m_611790/tm.htm

I'll actually be doing this tomorrow since mine quit on me too - but I did the check it the post above and my fan comes on low and high when I jump the switch. so I ordered a new switch from the link in the other thread and I'll see if its the problem tomorrow.

Unpluged the sensor. Turned on the key and the electric motor started running at hi speed still. Could it be in the climate control unit?

sounds like the high side relay is stuck. Not %100, but that sounds like the problem. The Highside relay is the #3 relay in the 8way relay carrier under your drivers side dash. There are two carriers - one is a 8way(there are 8 slots) the other is a 12-way I think(12 slots) - your going to need to check out the #3 relay - this will have the number 214 on the back of the relay. the #2 by the way would be the low fan. ok - now that you have pulled out the relay #214 - on the bottom there are four pins 85 and 86 - 30 and 87. how this relay works, is pins 85 and 86 have power run through them and that causes the circuit to close between 30 and 87 supplying power to the high side fan.
If you have a volt meter you can test the ohm's of 85-86 and 87-30. The 87-30 should give you no reading at all. that the 85-86 should give a good reading. if you get a reading from 87-30 then order a new relay.
Now take two long wires, strip off the ends - ground one to the bolt just under the fusebox - you can use any but I like that one - now take the other one and wrap it around the 75x - its under the dash - you'll see a bunch of wires hooked up to a power bank its lists 75x,30,30,30 - now take the two leads and energize the two 85 and 86 - see if you hear a click - if you do then the relay is working and I have wasted your time - that is the only component that i know of that would cause the aux fan to stay on. if the realy worked then there isn't much else I can do. Good luck
