A4 WONT go into first, or when it does it pops out!!
I am able to get a good deal on an a4, but the first gear pops out and you have to drive off in 2nd....so oviously the trans is garbage....but where can I get a replacement trans for cheap??? Is the trans the only problem?? Car has 90k on it and its a 96 2.8 quattro......
I havent seen too many a4s at junkyards and I am a hond guy so I dont know where to even look.
How long do you think I would be able to drive on this a4's trans?? How hard is it to replace an audi trans?? How much would a shop charge??
Thanks!!!

You don't need to replace the entire tranny if its a manual. They are a little complex but they can be re-built. A 5 speed can be re-built for about $2500 a 6 speed about $3400.
If you get it done at an independant you could probably get a clutch installed for the same price listed as above so that would be a good idea to, as for those prices above are marked for the dealer.

Well I went to check out the car today, and as I expected there was more to it.
The car can be put into gears fine, and the engine revs, but when in gear or in reverse the car moves about 1 foot every 2 seconds. Even if I rev the **** out of it and completely let off the clutch.
So I called a buddy and he said that the trans would need to be replaced, and I am risking the motor to be blown 2 weeks later cause the transmission can start a chain reaction..
The dealer said he could do 1500, so im sure if I went up there with 1200 he would sell it, but then I have to take a risk that the motor was ok or shot.....any suggestions??
