A4 Timing belt change
Hii All,
I went to firestone last friday for a quote for timingbelt, roller, waterpump and tension rod change for my car and they gave me a quote of $920.
and labor in that quote is $450, i am getting all the timing belt set for $220 on ebay, i asked if i could get my parts from outside then the firestone guy told it is not possible because those guys give warranty.
is it advicable to go to firestone guy or some other local guy where i can take my parts and get it fixed, what would be a best price to fix all those, an approximate price would help me in going to the right person !!!!!!.
Some help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ram.

RE: A4 Timing belt change
$450 seems reasonable for the labor and look for someone else to do the job for you, if the parts from eBay are legit like from a dealer then that's a very good price ( im sure many member buy from the cheaper suppliers ) to keep the cost down and eBay is a good source as many sellers are proper parts shops, it seems Firestone want to make big bucks out of the parts sale if they wont let you supply the parts go to some one who will

check www.dieselgeek.com and compare kits. I had purchased a kit from them and it was pretty thorough. Yeah get a local mech. or diy, firestone sucks!!!

RE: A4 Timing belt change
Hii All,
I had a talk with one auto repair shop and he is asking for $850 including parts (timing belt kit), i asked him what if i buy the parts he said he would charge 125% of labor becuase he gets some commision over parts.
Is it feasible to spend $850 on timing belt kit change.
if any one know a good mechanic in Austin, TX, please help me finding one.
Thanks,
Ram.
